Smartphones are revolutionising all forms of video storytelling, including films and documentaries. Here are some of our favourite examples to inspire your own creativity.
Mike Castelluci is a mobile journalism pioneer in the United States. His series “Phoning It In” is fun and a must-see.
With its “Shot on iPhone” campaign, Apple has been demonstrating its smartphone camera’s possibilities for some years now. In this video for the phone manufacturer’s campaign, Oscar-winning director Michel Gondry tells the story of a family vacation and a lost tricycle. The short film and was directed on his iPhone, of course.
Time to Revenge is a mojo-documentary by award-winning Spanish mobile and TV journalist Leonor Suárez. In her short film, Group Frente del Nalón re-enact a true story from the final days of the lSpanish Civil War in Asturias.
Another great (but brutal) example of mobile storytelling is this short film, shot on an iPhone 6S+. It was written, directed and edited by Conrad Mess. Not for you if you can’t bear explicit language, though.
